YouTube Spam Bots in comments section

Top YouTube producers have slammed the company for allowing spambots to “plaguing”  the comment sections.

The comment box has been a venue for viewers to evaluate and praise videos, as well as interact with a community, from the beginning of YouTube.

However, in recent months, the YouTube comment section has been “plagued” with bots that spam pushing sexual content, prompting creators to accuse the site of failing to tackle the problem.

Martyn ‘InTheLittleWood’ Littlewood, a Fortnite YouTuber, asked on January 2 if the network was actively working to tackle spambots.

InTheLittleWood asks; “Did I miss a blog post or tweet regarding these copy and paste spambots? I’d love to know if it’s something you guys are actively working to combat. Every video for over a month now is littered in genuine comments being duplicated by sexbots.”

The post drew the attention of several of YouTube’s most popular creators, like Ali-A and Vikkstar, who each expressed their own concerns about the platform’s bot-fighting efforts.

The Head of YouTube Gaming, Ryan ‘Fwiz’ Wyatt, informed the creators that he’d check in with the team behind the comments section and get back to them as soon as he had more information. “Sits outside of Gaming related work, so I need to get smarter on the topic and get you an answer. Stay tuned.”

With YouTube’s own Head of Gaming looking into the matter, maybe the platform will continue to push for a solution for creators to deal with the spambots that are filling up the comment section.
