xQc Channel Age-Restricted

Even though xQc, the biggest streamer on Twitch, is no stranger to controversy, a seemingly random age limit on his channel caught people off guard.

Late on July 11, xQc tweeted at YouTube to let them know he will be unable to upload videos for two weeks. He demanded a manual review, claiming the strike he received was unfair. No updates regarding his YouTube channel have been provided, despite YouTube’s response that they would transfer his issue to the appropriate team. xQc is now dealing with a new problem on a separate platform. The age restriction on his Twitch channel, where all of his content is created, requires users to provide their birthdate before watching his show.

On July 12th, xQc was informed by his chat that they had to enter their age in order to view his stream about 16 hours into it. When first opening the stream, a notice claiming that viewers “must be 19 to view this content” would appear.

xQc was perplexed and yelled, “what the f**k is this? I’ve never seen that before.”

The age restriction appeared during a section of the stream where X was using FL Studio to compose music.

If it emerged during a gambling stream, according to a user who makes music with X, it would make sense, but xQc said, “I’ve never had this or put this on. Apparently, it’s not on any other streams. It’s only mine. I feel like I’m being beta tested on.”

Since the legal age to gamble in the majority of Canadian provinces is 19, viewers speculated that the age restriction was brought about by his propensity for gambling. Others believed the restriction was the consequence of a rhythm that had been played earlier on stream and had gunshot sound effects. “I’m making the beat of America,” xQc said before again employing the gunshot noises.

The consequences of having an age restriction, aside from the prompt upon opening the stream, are unknown. This might have an impact on the advertisements that are available on his channel, similar to those on YouTube, or it might only be a small annoyance to viewers.
