Why xQc Turned Down $1M

Streaming sensation Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel has recently come under fire for his Twitch gambling sponsorships, but it turns out he isn’t just in it for the money.

Since his gambling sponsorships returned, xQc has had a rocky few weeks on Twitch, provoking a lot of debate on the Amazon-owned platform. Lengyel addressed the situation and his opinions on gambling after receiving criticism and defense from many in the industry, including Pokimane, Ludwig, Asmongold, and others.

The French Canadian said in a May 19th broadcast that while getting paid a lot of money to promote gambling, the money isn’t the reason he does it, citing mobile gaming offers he’s turned down in the past. In regards to gambling, the streamer stated, “I enjoy it. I was offered half a million, or a million to play mobile games for a certain amount of hours, and what happened? I said no.”

According to the popular streamer, even for more money than most people will ever have in their lives, he refused to devote time into a game he disliked. He explained; “Naturally, some of these games, I don’t like playing them. I don’t have fun doing them, so I’m less prone to taking them, because I can’t justify putting my time into that sh*t when I can do something else with my time.”

The former Overwatch League player also stated that he is more prone to accepting gambling sponsorships because he enjoys gambling. Unfortunately, the streamer did not specify which mobile games he refused to play on Twitch, but it’s fascinating to consider that he would deny such a large sum of money for only a few hours of work.
