VTuber Kiryu Coco Graduates From Hololive

VTuber Kiryu Coco has announced her graduation from Hololive, a company that manages live streaming virtual YouTubers.

Kiryu Coco is one of the most popular dragon VTuber from Japanese agency Hololive. Kiryu Coco isn’t the real name of the person running the famous avatar; instead, it’s the character’s name, who has amassed over one million subscribers and stands as YouTube’s most SuperChatted channel, raking in an estimated $2 million plus from Super Chats alone. Coco has also gained massive popularity with English-speaking audiences, as she speaks both English and Japanese, resulting in a huge influx of overseas fans viewing her content and taking an interest in the VTuber genre as a whole. She started her channel just a year and a half ago.

Hololive Production is a virtual YouTuber talent agency owned by Japanese tech entertainment company Cover Corporation. As of 2021, the agency manages more than 50 VTubers between its branches; talents have included Usada Pekora, Houshou Marine, Shirakami Fubuki, Kiryu Coco, Inugami Korone, Minato Aqua, Mori Calliope, Gawr Gura, and Akai Haato.

On July 1st, VTuber Kiryu Coco bid her farewell to the group. The news comes via an official announcement from Hololive. They admit that they were saddened by her decision to leave but the agency decided to honor her wishes. Coco herself reaffirmed her decision to leave and confirmed that she will continue her activities until July 1. Coco posted an 11 minute video on her channel announcing her “graduation” — meaning that she would no longer create content as Coco ever again. In the video, she stated; “The reason involves a lot of things I can’t talk about. So you won’t hear anything from me. I know that’s hard to accept.”

Although it was a bittersweet ending, Coco’s final live stream saw over 500,000 concurrent viewers at one point and even raised around $164k from donations.
