Tyler1’s Twitch Streaming Deal

Tyler ‘Tyler1’ Steinkamp has hinted that his massive Twitch streaming career may be coming to an end soon, as his contracted hours — which regularly see him stay online for more than 50 hours per week — are starting to take a toll on his life.

Tyler1, a well-known League of Legends streamer, is known for his incredibly lengthy stream hours and his unwavering commitment to Riot’s most popular game. That drive has contributed considerably to his rise to the top of the Amazon-owned website. Steinkamp is just in his twenties, but he’s now a self-made millionaire with 4.7 million streaming followers and a monthly ad revenue of $200,000. He is one of Twitch’s most well-known personalities. However, the lifestyle he leads in order to attain it all is taking its toll.

Steinkamp confessed in a Twitch profile with the Washington Post that he’s seriously considering putting it on his streaming career. Tyler1 is starting to think about life beyond streaming because of the lifestyle he drives himself to live in order to meet his Twitch hours and broadcasts. Steinkamp aims for a 10-hour live stream every time he streams.

He also broadcasts live most days of the week. There are no sick days or opportunities for him to relax from his job. On the weekend, the Twitch star admitted to the Post, he will totally avoid speaking just to rest his throat. Sometimes he can’t get out of bed. On planned streaming days, he sleeps for five hours.

Tyler also admits that he doesn’t always have the energy to stream for 10 hours. However, in order to meet his monthly contract of 200 a month, he forced himself to do so. He stated; “If you take one day off, [the fans] are like “where are you bro, how could you? ” So I don’t miss days. Ever. How bad is it going to get?”

It’s already bad, he added, but admits it could get worse. “Just f**k it, man. Maybe I just need to retire.” However, as Tyler1 notes, toying with the idea is not the same as genuinely planning for retirement. He knows his Twitch lifestyle, and the 200 hours every single month, will “take their toll” eventually. It’s just that he’s beyond caring.

He’s even begun to slide in the opposite direction. His rigorous schedule has turned into an obsession with staying live . He exploded on live one day in November after his broadcast collapsed, leaving him with a nine-hour VOD that he claimed was “ugly” and “gross.”

Tyler1 won’t quit just yet because of that mentality; he’s pondered it, but something is holding him back. “It’s been my whole existence,” he says, adding that he has nothing else.
