Twitch Streamer AlternateAU Banned

Another twitch streamer has hit out at twitch after getting banned for seven days due to looking at a certain emote which was on the front page of BTTV. BTTV or BetterTTV is a third-party browser extension that allows viewers to use emotes and animated spots in Twitch chat. BTTV offers extra emoticons, username, word and phrase highlighting, an anon chat feature, and lets you hide visual noises like bits.

On May 11th, a twitch streamer that goes by the username alternateAU posted a series of tweets together with a screenshot of the notice and the emote that he looked into, announcing that his channel was banned for a week after looking at a emote on the the front page of BTTV. According to alternateAU shared screenshot, the emote in question was said to be “sexually explicit” by Twitch. Here’s what he wrote; “So I have been banned for 7 days for looking at this emote which was on the front page of BTTV yet borderline softcore porn is allowed in the Just Chatting section? double standards from Twitch? See you homies in a week.”

In another tweet, he stated that this was the first time that he got banned on the platform for over three years of streaming with a clean record straight. He also informed his followers that he will just be chilling in his discord for a week if they want to hang with him. The content of the emote undoubtedly violates Twitch’s community guidelines, but AlternateAU and his followers criticized Twitch over perceived double standards with one user stated, “Twitch is an actual joke at this point, hate to bring up hot tub meta but literally this gets banned and that’s fine, double standards all the way.”
