Twitch Star 39daph Explains Valorant Accent

Daphne ’39daph’ Wai, a Twitch star, discussed why no one should date someone who has acquired the unique accent Valorant players acquire when they play (or watch) too much of the FPS.

If you’ve ever queued for a round of Valorant with voice chat enabled, you might have noticed that some players have a distinct speech cadence. This is known as the “Valorant” accent, which was popularized in the gaming community by TenZ. 

With a video demonstrating how the accent works and a wonderful metaphor to convey how it sounds, streamer 39daph went viral. 

A video of Daphne describing how Valorant-speak works went popular after being posted on the Valorant subreddit. “I watched some TikToks and then I realized you should never date anyone that has a Valorant accent. If you don’t know what the Valorant accent is, it’s when they talk like this: ‘You are so braaaain-dead, dude! You are literally throwing! Go next! You’re literally troooling dude, no cap.’” The accent drags out words much longer than usual and Daphne explained exactly what it sounds like, “You know what I just realized? They talk like race car engines.”

The analogy to a motor engine is apt because the accent tends to rev up words throughout a sentence in which players disparage their teammates. In just one day, the post from user ultron290196 has received over 20k upvotes. 

After seeing the video, one person in the comments section had an epiphany: “Oh. She just described my 14-year-old brother. This explains a lot, lmao.”

If you adopt the Valorant accent, you may end up sounding like a motor engine.
