Twitch Removes Kalei’s Emote

Today, FaZe “Kalei” Renay announced through Twitter that her Twitch emote “KaleiL” had been banned since it was deemed to be “disallowed content” by Twitch. Namely, the platform labeled the innocent-looking gesture as bullying.

A grayish bear with its hand on top of its head forming the L sign was Kalei’s emote. She made the emoticon and Twitch’s justification for its deletion visible to her Twitter followers. For “Targeted insults, bullying, and threatening or inciting abuse,” the emote was banned. Commonly used against other people, the word “loser” is denoted by the L symbol on the forehead. It is most likely banned by Twitch because it is so widely used as an insult.

L is also a very common way to say “loss,” though. This is typically said in the discussion after someone fails to score or misses a shot. It simply states what was seen, without being rude or unpleasant. Additionally, you may execute this identical L sign in a lot of the most widely played games that are streamed on Twitch. Many streamers who were opposed to the ban tweeted messages in favor of Kalei.

Since many streamers have to deal with bogus reports from viewers who don’t like their content, the primary reason for the report may not matter in the end. When the emote was eventually sent to Twitch for evaluation, Twitch discovered that it violated their rules. Kalei might decide to challenge the ban on this emote, but it might be difficult to win.

Typically, Twitch rulings on issues like this are hard to appeal.
