Twitch Bans Former Dota 2 Pro, Mason

Former professional Dota 2 player and a twitch streamer, Mason, has been banned from Twitch after he accidentally said a homophobic slur during one of his live broadcasts. Mason is one of the most popular western Dota 2 streamers and he is best known for his brief stint with Evil Geniuses that saw them finish third in The International 2014. Mason has already been banned from the platform three times previously. His first ban was due to pervasive racism in his chat and the reasons for his second and third ban were less clear.

Now, mason is being banned again from the platform for the fourth time and the reason behind this ban was something a little more controversial than the others as it appears he may have accidentally said something that mainly believe was a homophobic slur. During the stream where he got banned, Mason has mistakenly combined “Fan” and “Aghs” when he was talking about Aghanim’s Scepter on Kunkka. Mason immediately realized what happened and tried to clear it up as he stated; “Oh my god! I didn’t mean to say that word… I think I just said the F word… I didn’t mean to say that.”

Because of this, it gave rise to something different, which happened to sound like a homophobic slur. As a result, he has now been banned and will not be able to stream for seven days. Mason wrote about the situation on twitter as he doubled down on his claim that it was an accident and confirmed he would appeal the ban. He wrote, “Appealing my ban for accidental usage of naughty words!! If the appeal is not successful, it’s a 7 day ban. So see you soon or see you in a week. for all no one’s fault be the best you can be.”
