Twitch Accused of Racism

Hot tub streamer ExoHydraX has accused Twitch of racially discriminating against her when handing out a controversial ban during a stream. The hot tub meta might be Twitch’s biggest controversy of 2021, especially thanks to situations such as this one. Twitch changed its Terms of Service back in 2019 to allow swimwear in the appropriate settings, such as at the beach or in a hot tub. Because of this, ngs, such as at the beach or in a hot tub. Then, some content creators began using this change as a loophole, using hot tub streams as an effective way to rake in cash.

ExoHydraX is a competitive Call of Duty player, partnered with Twitch streamer and woman of color. ExoHydraX started her stream like any other hot tub streamer as she put on a revealing bathing suit and then plopped into her inflatable “hot tub” to hang out with her followers while submerged in the water and playing with pool toys. During the stream where she got banned, she started “twerking for subs.” Because of this, she received a three-day ban from Twitch for “sexually suggestive content” in wake of a hot tub stream of her own. Now, ExoHydraX hit out at twitch noting that many other white, female broadcasters have not been punished for hot tub streams while she’s been banned.

She took to twitter and wrote about her situation stating; “Good luck being black and being a streamer on Twitch. I do the exact same content that yt girl does, but yet I get banned but they don’t? Beyond disappointing. THIS ISN’T OK.”

ExoHydraX isn’t the only woman of color to have been banned from Twitch after a hot tub stream as popular streamer Imjasmine also received a suspension for sexual content after suffering a wardrobe malfunction during a hot tub broadcast. For now, Twitch’s hot tub streams continue to remain a point of contention for viewers and streamers alike.
