TheBaus Addition To LEC Broadcast Receives Criticism

A surprising amount of noise/reaction from the League’s community to ‘TheBaus’ recent addition to LEC broadcast team as guest analyst and caster.

An announcement was made during the 2021 LEC Summer Split week six saying that it would bring on a popular League of Legend content creator, TheBaus as their guest analyst and caster alongside Hiprain and Jamada.

‘TheBaus’ addition to the broadcast team sparked a heated debate among prominent names in the League community. Many different responses from casters, figures, and popular players were made.

League of Legends esports professional player Hampus Mikael AKA promisq said in a tweet that it is a slap in a face for many aspiring casters and analyst in the league for inviting ‘TheBaus’ who had no competitive experience to analyze games on the LEC.

Also LCS caster Azael said that he is worried about the building trend where a league opts sign a popular personality to cast over someone without any knowledge about it and said that other esports company hire popular streamers to cast an event who isn’t even interested and knowledgeable, only for them to spike their viewership. He said that he doesn’t want that to happen to the League’s esports. He also made it clear that he has nothing against ‘TheBaus’ but he doesn’t like the fact that he was just added to the cast team just because he’s popular.

However, a popular LEC host Sjokz was very supportive to TheBaus’ addition as guest caster saying that TheBaus was very professional and motivated in their AD prep meetings and that casters and production staffs had been actively working on guest casters to create the best possible product by coaching and prepping them so that they can play to their strengths while making sure it works within the content’s scope at hand.

Also, according to the Former LEC Caster Froskurinn, he said that there’s no reason to be butthurt over the said situation especially with the amount of European Masters casters has also given a shot on the LEC broadcast like the rising caster Excoundrel, Foxdrop, Jamada, Hiprain, Guldborg, and Troubleinc. They all have been integrated into the productions as guest casters saying that they have been instrumental since they bring plenty of new discussions and perspective to the games at hand.
