Team Liquid Secures Major Coinbase Sponsorship

Team Liquid is a multinational esports organization who has recently entered the cryptocurrency realm, forming a four-year collaboration with cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.

In 2021, the convergence of esports and cryptocurrency will be fully realized, with crypto exchanges depending heavily on competitive gaming as a means of promoting their services.

Team Liquid is the most recent to gain from this trend, albeit the financial value of their four-year collaboration with Coinbase has not been revealed. They’ll cooperate to “develop technology that elevates the overall fan experience,” according to a press release.

Coinbase will integrate into the org’s Liquid+ community network, enable crypto-based payment options on their store, and promote their branding across jerseys and content as part of this new partnership. Coinbase will also assist Team Liquid in the development of their own NFTs as part of the cooperation. This technique, sometimes known as non-fungible tokens, proposes to assign ownership to digital assets.

In 2021, crypto and esports have shown to be a financially profitable combination, with many seven-figure transactions. For example, TSM and FTX’s 10-year arrangement is worth $210 million, and Fnatic’s collaboration with Crypto.com is worth $15 million.

Coinbase has already established relationships with tournament organizers ESL and BLAST, as well as groups like BIG and Evil Geniuses.

The co-CEO of Team Liquid Steve Arhancet said in a statement; “When we were looking for a potential partner in the crypto space, it was really important that we found someone that was doing it the right way, the Team Liquid way. And the more we learned about Coinbase, the more certain we became that this was the partner we were looking for. Like a lot of our fans, crypto was new to me once, but once I started reading and watching, I realized that it wasn’t some passing fad — it’s here now, and will be in the future. Together with Coinbase, we hope we can demystify crypto for Team Liquid fans.”
