Streamers Are Concerned For Their Safety

As TwitchCon Paris is still scheduled to take place despite continuing disturbances throughout France, Twitch streamers are worried for their safety.

Twitch regularly offers two events for their live-streaming community, one in Europe and the other in the US, allowing viewers and content producers to hang out and socialize in one location. From July 7 to July 9, Paris’ Paris Expo Porte de Versailles will host the first TwitchCon event of 2023. Attendees are worried about their safety, too, given the ongoing rioting and protests that have gripped the nation since June 27, when a 17-year-old boy was tragically killed by police after they stopped him for a traffic violation.

Twitch still plans to hold the event, despite everything. They said in a July 1 statement; “We are closely monitoring the protests taking place in and around Paris. The safety and security of our community and staff are always, and will continue to be our top priority. At this time there is no anticipated impact to TwitchCon Paris. The venue is not near the epicenter of the protests, or any of the areas that have seen protest activity, and has continued to operate business as usual. We are getting regular updates from the ground and will communicate any changes to our TwitchCon plans. We look forward to seeing you soon, The TwitchCon Team.”

Even if the majority of the rioting and demonstrations in Paris are occurring on the other side of the city from the event, many people are still upset about the choice. One of those who attacked the company, alleging they won’t call off the event so they don’t lose money, was Kick co-founder Trainwrecks. Translation: We won’t go through with it and hope you back out and lose money because we don’t want to cancel and lose money or refund and lose money. For their own protection, several advised people planning to attend the event to stay away. I’m requesting that people avoid Paris at this Twitchcon, one said. “An event is not nearly as important to me as your safety and life. There is always a next time, so please do what is best for you.
