Streamer Cardboard_Cowboy Banned

Cardboard_Cowboy, a Twitch streamer, was recently expelled from the platform for using his alternate account to broadcast his own Lofi music.

This is only the most recent in a long line of Twitch scandals that beset the dominant video game broadcasting service and pose a threat to its demise as more users leave for the competition. When Twitch initially entered the world of online video game streaming, it was seen as a rapidly expanding YouTube rival. Many of Twitch’s viewers now perceive the corporation as being more concerned with profit than really streaming video games. It doesn’t help that so many of the platform’s most popular streamers have quit or been expelled without much justification. Cardboard_Cowboy, who is being punished for playing his own licensed music, which is permitted on all major platforms, is adding to the list of perplexing bans.

Cardboard_Cowboy’s main channel features comedy-focused streams, and his alternate channel, LofiCardboardCowboy, features his licensed music. Before the business arbitrarily banned his other channel without properly alerting him of the reason, Cardboard_Cowboy had been a successful Twitch partner for five years.

The streamer used Twitter to draw attention to the discrepancy between the email he received from the company and its mission statement, which highlights Twitch’s desire to be as transparent as possible with its customers. Cardboard_Cowboy is not the only well-known Twitch personality to have been banned in 2023. For example, Alinity was banned for three days for “twerking,” but she was able to appeal the decision by pointing out the considerably more pornographic content that was still available on the site. Cardboard_Cowboy, like the other celebrities who have had their bans lifted, was able to raise enough of a fuss on Twitter to convince Twitch to lift the ban a few days later. The Amazon-owned corporation has not yet issued a formal public apology.

The most recent scandal to damage Twitch’s reputation included its proposed branded content restrictions, which would have required streamers to confine their burned-in advertisements to a tiny area of screen real estate. Many people perceived this strategy as an attempt by the firm to maximize its profits at the expense of the streamer.

Even though Twitch changed its standards policy and apologized, it might be too late for many streamers and, more crucially, many viewers. The next big thing to find a new streaming home on YouTube or Kick may be Cardboard_Cowboy.
