Austin Ekeler is SteelSeries’ First NFL Ambassador

SteelSeries, a gaming peripheral company, has seemed to be expanding into the world of football as they recently signed Austin Ekeler who is the Los Angeles Chargers running back and a twitch streamer as their first NFL ambassador.

SteelSeries has long built keyboards, computer mice and headsets used by esports players. With the market booming for gaming peripherals, and even more growth expected next year, the company has enlisted some esports stars including Faze Twistzz and NFL running back Austin Ekeler.

Austin Ekeler is an American football running back for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League and he has also become a live game streamer on Twitch and a vocal advocate for athletes to branch out into other areas using their influence to make connections and engage their audiences. He does this through his organization, Gridiron Gaming Group, which functions as a full-service esports, streaming, and gaming org with a focus on building up their creators and two-way engagement with the community.

The announcement of Ekeler looks to build on SteelSeries’s expansion into ‘the lifestyle space, sports, and cross-over categories’. Ekeler will play a strategic role in SteelSeries promotion for the new Prime franchise of products for the company’s 20th anniversary, while the brand will provide gear to GGG and its partners. Ekeler stated that his passion for gaming and esports is not a secret so he is honoured to become the first pro sports athlete to serve as an ambassador and join the SteelSeries family.

They’re among more than 100 gaming professionals who were consulted in developing the line, including other players from the FaZe Clan, Red Bull and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Esports teams.

The line itself features three different computer mice, the wired Prime and Prime+ mice, as well as a Prime Wireless model. All three mice are highly configurable but stripped-down, lightweight models. Each of them features opto-magnetic switches the company developed to be more durable, responsive and super fast, with 1-millisecond response times and no mechanical components to wear out.
