Skating Virtually For A Cause

Matthew Cline, an elementary school teacher from Winnipeg, organized a gaming fundraiser where he played Tony Hawk Pro Skater for 24 hours straight in order to raise funds for low-income youth.

Cline shared that Tony Hawk Pro has been with him since he was a small child. He said he remembers getting Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 for Christmas when he was just 6 years-old and couldn’t put the controller down.

The funds and donations that he raised from the stream were used to help kids who could not afford to buy skateboards.

Cline said; “I remember how special it felt getting new gear. There are so many kids out there who might not get to experience the same special feeling or might not get to experience the passion of skateboarding.” Cline pointed out that his personal experience and memories of skateboarding in Winnipeg is what motivated him to do such an act.

Cline was able to raise around $2,000, enough to buy about 16 skateboards.

“Streaming is a totally new hobby for me,” he said. “For the past four months or so, I’ve been out of work just working on my mental health, and this has really helped me with my mental health and focus on something.”

Cline is still accepting donations on his Twitch Channel until March of 2021 when the skateboards will be distributed as gifts.
