Shane Dawson’s Past Mistakes

On a recent episode of The Sip with Ryland Adams and Lizze Gordon, YouTuber Shane Dawson said that he feels like he “ruined everybody’s lives” around him because of his past mistakes.

Shane Dawson has almost 20 million subscribers on YouTube. He’s been filming and posting films since 2008, and his different docu-series on well-known creators like Jeffree Star and Tana Mongeau have been enormous hits in recent years.

After addressing backlash surrounding his earlier “racial comedy” in a twenty-minute video on the platform, YouTube suspended advertising on all three of Dawson’s YouTube channels in June 2020. Since then, he hasn’t published to his channel and while he was initially pretty quiet on social media, he has been making more appearances on Instagram in recent months to update fans, implying a return.

Shane spoke on an edition of The Sip podcast on September 22nd with Ryland Adams and co-host Lizze Gordon to discuss his mental health. He also discussed how he believes his controversies have affected those around him.

Here’s what he said; “This is such a dark place to go but over the last couple years I feel like—and I’ve really tried to work through it—but it is hard not to feel like I’ve ruined everybody’s lives around me because of my mistakes in the past, and that was definitely a feeling for a while. And it’s like, I don’t know, I just felt like, you kind of got thrown through the mud.”

The response in the video’s comment area was mostly favorable, with many people complimenting Shane for being so open about his mental health throughout the episode. For now, it is unclear when or when he’ll return to YouTube, but it appears that video creation is definitely in his sights in some manner.
