Redvines Faces Backlash

A partnered twitch streamer that goes by the name Redvines has now been facing backlash after being caught abusing the platform’s newest feature the animated emotes and went on to create fake bits animations to troll some streamers into thinking that they just got a massive donation. Last month, Twitch introduced the custom animated emotes which allows the partnered streamer on twitch to create their own five animated emotes.

However, it appears that a new animated emote on Twitch mimics the notification of a donation, and trolls are using it to spam the accounts of streamers. In one particular case, a partnered twitch streamer that goes by the name Redvines used the feature to create fake bits.

Instead of sending real donations, this enabled his subscribers to troll other streamers with misleading messages. Bits can be bought and then donated to Twitch streamers, with a notification visible in chat and Redvines’ animated emote looks very similar. In one of his most recent live broadcasts, he proudly introduced his animated emote stating; “I made the $100 bit donation into an emote. I’m gonna go troll some streamers.” The emote in question made it appear as though viewers were donating $10000 or $100,000 to the streamer’s channel.

His first target was FaZe Mew who was just doing his usual stream when Redvine baited him with a 50,000 bit donation, the equivalent of roughly $500. Upon seeing this, FaZe Mew was initially ecstatic, until Redvines admitted it was a prank.

FaZe Mew was not the only streamer who got trolled by this animated emote as another streamer that goes by the name Emmagination has also been trolled by a viewer with a username of ‘EnvyTVs’ who have seemingly donated 540,000 bits in the span of just a few seconds.

This would have been a life-changing amount for the trans streamer, who took to Twitter after her stream. She wrote: “Today Twitch hit a new low for me. I was just telling my community how I am at risk of ending up homeless after my divorce because of my government’s inability to support disabled people and then this happened in my chat.”
