Record Labels Slammed

DMCA takedowns have made some of the Twitch streamers, big and small channels, banned over the last months. Some of the streamers have received DMCA notices and copyright strikes from Twitch such as Pokimane, CouRage and others. Popular Twitch streamer Felix Lengyel aka xQc has been so vocal about what he wants to say that he recently criticized record labels that are going after some Twitch streamers.

xQc indicated that the latest DMCA takedown was really weird due to targeting music in the background of some IRL streamers and gaming streamers that had already been deleted. Record labels have been pursuing the streaming platform and its users for playing music without the proper licenses. As xQc stated addressing the controversy during his November 4th live broadcast; “I don’t know what it is with their system, but they’re recording and they’re looking at infractions from past clips from years ago that are already deleted. They’d be flagged content that was infractionary from years ago and they’ve stored it in a database and they’re now taking action”.

xQc explained that the record labels are going after clips that the streamer has no control over, like the music in a video game or an IRL streamer that passed through a street with some music. He stated that those DMCA takedowns are really weird; “People are getting warned for music that was playing in the streets or in a game from like four years ago. That’s really weird. The song is literally in a video game, when you’re playing it, there’s nothing you can do to avoid it”.
