Pokimane Opines About ASMR Meta

The ASMR meta has now been the talk of town recently with many streamers weighing in to give their own opinion on the matter. Now, the latest streamer to give her opinion was the one of the most popular female streamers on twitch, Imane Anys aka Pokimane as she discussed how she thinks that Twitch’s actions have created an inevitable time bomb. Twitch streaming platform has already faced criticism since the rise of the hot tub meta earlier this year.

It has become a huge debate with many streamers as well as some personalities from different platforms sharing their own take on the matter. This led to twitch creating a new category on the platform to try to separate the hot tub streams from the Just Chatting content. Now, a new controversy has emerged after several streamers switched from lounging in hot tubs to holding ASMR performances in gym attire.

Many streamers such as summit1g, Asmongold and more have already shared their concern on the issue and now the new streamer who weighed in on the current topic of ASMR was Twitch streamer Pokimane. During a recent stream, Pokimane began discussing about her previous opinion on the hot tub meta where she predicted that the creators partaking in those streams would simply find another way to “push the envelope” if Twitch ever cracked down on that particular trend.

She then added that Twitch’s tools used to categorize that type of content are severely lacking as she went on to criticize Twitch for simply slapping a band-aid over what many creators feel is a serious injury, instead of treating the root causes and that it an extremely confusing TOS and lack of effective moderation. Pokimane also expressed her concern on the impact of the controversial meta on established ASMR creators, who have been largely overshadowed by streamers jumping into the category to join in on the latest money-making trend.

Here’s what she said; “I feel really bad for legitimate ASMR artists. For people to come into your category and get to the top by doing the splits with their butt out and gurgling into a mic? It sucks, it’s unfortunate.”
