Pokimane And Myth Discuss Streamers

Pokimane and Myth, two popular Twitch broadcasters, have stated that streamers should be more responsible if they realize their following is predominantly made up of younger people.

With 9 million and 7 million followers, Pokimane and Myth have been among the most popular Twitch streamers in recent years. With tens of thousands of followers and an average viewing of thousands, they are bound to attract a younger audience.

One of the most frequently raised concerns about major streamers with potentially younger viewers is how a creator’s activities might easily influence the viewer’s actions.

Poki and Myth discussed their thoughts on streamers being responsible on stream on an episode of the OfflineTV podcast on February 24. Myth illustrates how big-name streamers have the potential to do “a lot of damage” when they misuse their platform after talking about various scenarios they’ve gone through on social media. The question of huge streamers with younger audiences was then brought up by Pokimane.

She stated; “It blows my mind and it’s very frightening to me that some kids spend more time with a content creator than they do with their own parents. Therefore they value their opinion or how they set an example more than they do their own parents.”

Myth then mentioned that some streamers believe it is not their responsibility to ‘parent’ other people’s children, and while they both agree that this is true to some level, they also acknowledge that there is a ‘reality’ that streamers must face. Pokimane added; “If you know your audience skews towards being younger, you just know that’s the reality of it. It’s almost like a responsibility that’s thrust upon you whether you like it or not.”

The Twitch stars talked about streamers who say “it’s not their job,” with both agreeing that the phrase is only a method for them to feel better about their lack of concern for their influence.
