Despite the popularity of Imane Anys AKA Pokimane, she also happened to be one of the most disliked internet personalities in the past few years.
It might come as a surprise to her fans and followers knowing that she has a bubbly and cheerful personality. Regardless, in her initial years, she was embroiled in a range of controversies and was criticized regularly in the community.
This was due to several reasons such as one of her controversy when she filed a related copy-striked against PewDiePie in January 2019 and since then, she has been involved in several issues with fellow internet personalities and it played a crucial role in drawing the ire of some of her fanbase.
Pokimane is a well-known streamer and also a controversial one despite her cheerful personality. It all started when she came under scrutiny for her rigidness regarding other content creators using part of her content where one of her fellow streamer PewDiePie posted a YouTube video poking fun at the argument Pokimane had with Drama Alert host Daniel Keem AKA Keemstar.
After the said video, PewDiePie posted another video titled “STOP DOING THIS” in which he urged Pokimane to stop copy-striking her fellow creators who talk about her.
Other content creators who also posted about her received a strike which included another YouTuber ‘Faded’ where Pokimane eventually heeded the advice of PewDiePie but was confused and hesitant about her right to copy-right videos that are not transformative in nature.
Greater controversy followed this when one of her fellow streamer Keemstar accused her of lying about her ‘single’ relationship status claiming that she had a boyfriend, contrary to what she’s telling to her fans. Keemstar called Pokimane fake and pathetic and added that she hid the truth so that she can keep getting the same amount of attention.
Another controversy of Pokimane was when she lashed out against a smaller YouTuber called ItsAGundam who’s making a video against her and making fun of her “simp” fans. In response, Pokimane attacked the said YouTuber’s sponsor and encouraged her fans to leave negative comments and feedback on the video.
However, ItsAGundam still had the last laugh in their said beef and mocked hr by posting another video titled “Pokimane Gets Exposed & Skips Town”.
Calvin Lee Vail AKA Leafy was also part of Pokimane’s controversies after he was suspended after he posted videos criticizing Pokimane and her fans. He was permanently suspended from both streaming platforms YouTube and Twitch. Pokimane fans were also criticized after they allegedly mass reported Leay, something Pokimane denied doing.
Finally, the biggest controversy involving Pokimane is when she was tied to Federico Gaytan AKA Fedmyster where he was accused of sexual conduct by fellow members of Offline TV Yvonnie and Lilypichu. Pokimane claimed that she was also manipulated by Fedmyster that’s why she decided to leave the Offline TV house.
Last year, a document of Fedmyster was leaked where it shows that Pokimane had actually a good relationship with Fedmyster but threw him under the bus when the allegations started to come out. Fed also said that Pokimane wanted Yvonne to be fired but Pokimane only laughed away all the allegations against her and all the critizations she was receiving saying that she lied about her relationship with Fedmyster.
She responded with a Twitchlonger post in which she explained and shared evidence of Fedmyster’s manipulative behavior. Despite that, the community wsan;t entirely on her side, which seemed to be a combination of all her controversies she had been involved in since 2019.
As of now, she has steered clear of controversies and it has seemed to widen her scope of content. She has always had a cheerful personality and spends hours withher fans and followers routinely.
Despite her popularity, she remains to be one of the most polarizing content creators.
