PewDiePie Joins the List

Becoming a streamer nowadays is a convenient way to earn money while you’re at home due to the coronavirus pandemic. The common way for a streamer to earn some money is by sponsorship, collaboration and donations. Viewers have the option of whether they will donate to their favorite streamers or not. However, some of the most popular streamers across all platforms have not been accepting donations anymore from their viewers. Like what Pokimane recently did wherein she collaborated with Streamlabs to cap her donations into a maximum of $5 per user per stream.

She urged her followers to just donate to small streamers and help some charities instead of donating a big amount of money to her. Though it was a generous move, the community was not happy about it and she faced a lot of backlash for her decision. The popular streamer DisguisedToast announced last year that he won’t be accepting any more donations since he’s already rich. Other than that, he also stated that he did that because he always feels bad when he doesn’t acknowledge someone’s donation when he gets too focused on the game he is streaming.

The most recent streamer to announce that he will no longer accept any donations is the popular YouTube streamer, Pewdiepie. As he stated; “Yeah, I decided I don’t wanna accept more donations. I appreciate just the chatting. It was actually when I did my donating to Twitch streamer video that made me realise just how weird it is to donate money to people. Like if someone gave me money on the street I’ll be like WTF no I’m not gonna take that. Like for some reason it’s like Yeah, pay me. Give me the money. $500? Just give me that s. F yeah. I don’t get it, it just makes no sense. I’m not judging other people doing it, I’m just saying from my perspective it doesn’t make sense. So, I’m not accepting it. I don’t think I need it”.
