New World Sets Another Milestone

Having previously been scheduled to release in May 2020, New World is set in the 1600s where war is raging on the fictional island of Aeternum in the Atlantic Ocean, where three factions, Marauders, Syndicate and Covenant battle for supremacy.

Amazon Games’ upcoming online role-playing title will come out at the end of next month and they have been running a test period that is set to run until August 3rd. Ahead of its launch next month, New World has entered closed beta, and is already generating a lot of interest from players as it seems to be a big hit with the title recently passing the 200,000 active users mark.

New World reached a peak concurrent player count of 200,856 over the weekend, and according to Stream Database, the number has been on the rise since the beta started.

To be more precise, 200,856 players were online at once during that day, with the highest 24-hour peak being 167,728 and over 60,000 currently active. One reason for the closed beta’s massive popularity has been its exposure through content creators on Twitch. On twitch, New World racked up over 600,000 viewers, beating out other popular games like Grand Theft Auto V and Call Of Duty: Warzone. And it was even more popular than the platform’s ‘Just Chatting’ category.

It has become the fourth most-watched game on the platform with 23.6 million hours watched with top content creators who have played the game include Fextralife, TimTheTatman, and JoshOG. However, Amazon’s testing for New World hasn’t been all positive. Early on, some players with high-end graphics cards reported that the game was killing their GPU, forcing Amazon to address the issue.
