Markiplier Doesn’t Want to Box

Today, using a variety of major websites as a launching pad for their artistic or entrepreneurial ambitions, anyone can become a content creator or influencer.

With a devoted fan base of millions to back them up, platforms like Twitch have transformed gamers into streaming megastars who have built successful professions out of being in front of a camera online. Another website that appeals to this new breed of internet celebrities is YouTube. Markiplier, whose name is practically synonymous with the site, has recently been talking about his opinions on boxing.

The YouTube sensation was questioned whether he would think about boxing in a Logan Paul-hosted episode of the podcast Impaulsive. Mark Fischbach, also known as Markiplier, chuckled in response and said he didn’t want to “get punched in the face.” The well-known gamer went on to state that he had great respect for boxing in general, that he watched it, and that he thought it was a “beautiful sport,” but he reaffirmed that he had no desire to box himself. Despite the lack of context in the audio clip, it’s likely that Paul raised the question in response to the recent trend of content creators entering the fray. Last summer, Logan Paul fought Floyd Mayweather in a fight where no winner was declared. But a few months ago, Paul declared that he was suing Mayweather for the millions that he claimed were still owed for the fight. There don’t seem to have been any new developments on this story as of the time of writing.

Paul is hardly the only online celebrity to have fought. Arin Hanson, one half of Game Grumps, has also competed in a boxing match, going up against Epic Meal Time host Harley Morenstein. Dr. Disrespect has also discussed the idea of participating in a boxing challenge, though he hasn’t actually said with certainty if he’d be willing to fight someone like Morenstein.

With more than 30 million followers to his channel, Markiplier, the erstwhile “Warfstache,” is one of the most well-known figures on YouTube. His attendance on Paul’s podcast suggests that he is resolute in his desire to avoid boxing.

Markiplier has a lot going on as a businessman. So even though he’s assured that no one will punch him in the face, it’s possible that he wouldn’t have the time to enter the ring even if he wanted to.
