Alexandra Botez is one of the top streamers on Twitch who plays and stream chess. She is an American-Canadian chess player, holding the title Woman FIDE Master. She also runs a YouTube chess channel with her younger sister, Andrea Botez.

She mentions in an interview that her father, Andrei, is her former coach. She said; “My dad is a huge troll. He would always trash-talk me when we were playing, so I had to survive and learn to trash-talk to him back. I think he gets very disappointed if I am not good at it.”

Her number of followers went up this year. Last January she reached 61,000 followers on Twitch and 250,000 followers on her Instagram account. She also has a YouTube channel named BotezLive with 25 million views.

Her channel rose again when a Netflix series about a girl chess player titled Queen’s Gambit became popular. The main actress was played by Anya Taylor-Joy

She said; “I think everyone in the chess world agrees that this is the best-ever portrayal of chess on the TV screen. Chess-set sales on eBay soared over 130 percent. It had a big impact on girls’ interest in chess.

She decided to make the game as her main gig and she also wants to make the game chess to be more accessible to the average player which is why she’s motivated to stream the game on her Twitch channel. She also said that she and her sister have done a good job explaining ideas and techniques about chess clearly.
