Hikaru Shares Thoughts Of xQc’s Response

The reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen accused Hans Niemann of cheating during their chess encounter at the 2022 Sinquefield Cup in a Tweet sent out yesterday.

In reaction, renowned Twitch streamer xQc called out Carlsen and said he was doing “irreparable damage” to the game. After that, another streamer and grandmaster of chess Hikaru Nakamura had some harsh words for the Twitch star.

Magnus Carlsen, one of the best chess players in the world, was defeated by Twitch streamer and grandmaster Hans Niemann at the 2022 Sinquefield Cup a little less than a month ago. After Carlsen decided to leave the competition after losing, this led to a wave of controversy. The chess community was further agitated two weeks later when Carlsen withdrew from his match versus Niemann at the Julius Baer Generation Cup after making just one move. 

Carlsen’s blatant accusation of Niemann’s cheating in their earlier-in-the-month match in a Tweet yesterday brought the drama between the two players to an end. Popular Twitch streamer xQc responded to this Tweet by ostensibly asserting that Carlsen’s allegations are unfounded and harming Niemann in a “irreparable” way. 

xQc wrote; “HE CHEATED! BELIEVE ME! LET ME CAUSE IRREPERABLE DAMAGE BECAUSE I WANT TO!” along with a GIF that reads “My source is that I made it the fuck up.”

Chess grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura caught wind of xQc’s response when he was live streaming on Twitch, and the young prodigy didn’t hold back in expressing his thoughts. Nakamura said; “I really don’t, I don’t like this. Of course, xQc is completely out of his mind to say this. Maybe now he’ll want to jump on like a five-hour call and we can yell at each other about it. At the end of the day, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, and this is just insane to put this Tweet out there. I mean, I don’t know, maybe he’s trying to stir up drama and start something else but yeah, he literally is clueless on this topic and I don’t know why he felt the need to put this out.”

Nakamura seems to have positioned himself in the camp that thinks Niemann cheated during his encounter at the Sinquefield Cup by saying that xQc is “clueless” on the subject and that xQc is “not right” in respect to the Carlsen scenario. Nakamura made some remarks regarding the Twitch star’s Twitter reply, but neither xQc nor Carlsen have yet reacted.
