The numerous high-profile bans that frequent Twitch content creators experience are a constant source of drama for the community, as they are for all streaming platforms.
Information on these bans is frequently very sought after because they can be issued for a wide range of plausible causes and can range greatly in length.
Such a debate recently surrounded the well-known Twitch streamer GreekGodx, who was barred from the platform and left many curious as to why. Many have questioned whether previous recent disputes involving GreekGodx may have affected Twitch’s decision, despite the streamer himself explaining why he was banned. GreekGodx formally began his streaming career when he started “stream sniping” Twitch streamers like Tyler1 and Sodapoppin.
Greek went on to become a key component of Tyler’s streams as a result of his on-screen chemistry with Tyler1; the two effectively became a duo act that would play variety games together on Tyler’s channel.
As a result, it is understandable that Greek started to gain his own fan base. Tyler was perceived as the angry on-screen character, and Greek was the relatable and comic “funnyman.”
As soon as Tyler1 was allowed to play League of Legends again at the beginning of 2018, Greek started streaming more frequently on his own channel. Greek found popularity on his own by streaming his incredible weight-loss journey in order to maintain the audience he had gained from Tyler’s streams.
Greek has a reputation for taking lengthy breaks from his channel in recent years, much to the dismay of his devoted followers. GreekGodx’s erratic streaming schedule was made worse by a recent Twitch ban, which has already been lifted.
On June 28th, Greek was prohibited, and the community instantly started to wonder why. GreekGodx quickly took to Twitter when the ban became known and claimed that it was because he had momentarily “twerked” on a recent stream, however many have noticed that there may have been other factors at play. GreekGodx recently engaged in a rant that many people have since criticized as sexist in which he said that any women who wants to date him would have to give up their careers in order to take care of him at home. The timing of such a divisive outburst has caused many to believe that this is the real reason the streamer was banned, and regardless of whether this is the case, it has garnered a lot of attention to the divisive statement.
GreekGodx had already encountered comparable levels of controversy; he famously received a 14-day suspension in September 2019 for a different contentious outburst, this one focusing on gender identification. The latest recent controversy is a worrying indictment of a regular pattern of contentious behavior that is beginning to build for the streamer, despite his later apology and defense of his statement as a jest.
GreekGodx was unbanned from the platform on July 1, according to official confirmation, and the most recent ban had only been in effect for three days.
