Square Enix’s massively multiplayer online game, Final Fantasy XIV Online has been slowly gaining in popularity, so if you want to check out the sights of Eorzea for yourself, here’s how to download the free trial edition and circumvent the one-time password.
It’s reasonable to argue that the Final Fantasy series has left a lasting impression on video game history. Gamers all around the world have fallen in love with the title’s beautiful anime-style visuals and dramatic but interesting storyline. However, the game’s devoted following isn’t the only source of excitement. Asmongold and Jaryd ‘summit1g’ Lazar, two Twitch streamers, have resurrected the game in the streaming community, attracting hundreds of thousands of viewers.
If you’ve been speaking with friends or watching any of these streams, you’re probably longing to go into Final Fantasy XIV. However, it turns out that it isn’t as simple as it appears.
Square Enix is providing a free 30-day trial to aspiring explorers. It’s the greatest way to get into the Final Fantasy universe without spending too much money upfront, as you can advance your character all the way up to level 60.
The free trial is available on Square Enix’s official website as well as on Steam.
After you’ve downloaded the client, you’ll be prompted to login in using your Square Enix username and password. You will, however, be notified that a “One-Time Password” is required.
You’ll most likely be led to some strange language about purchasing a $12 password or utilizing an app from here. It’s at this point that things reach a ragequit level of annoyance.
The purpose of the one-time password is to provide you with a more secure account. It also has the advantage of allowing you to select an aetheryte of your choosing as a free destination in-game, which means you won’t have to pay gil for transportation.
If you downloaded the Free Trial via Steam, you may have issues with the in-game client, which may request a registration code. Why are you being asked for one during your trial period but you can get one if you buy the game in its entirety?
You must first download the Free Trial client, which can be found here. To sign in, you will not need a registration code.
If you have the full registration and are having trouble signing in with the code, make sure your game is first linked to your Square Enix account. To do so, follow these steps:
- Log in to the official Square Enix website.
- Select ‘Collection’ from the drop-down menu.
- Then choose ‘Redeem Code.’
- Fill in your registration code (Steam will display it in a pop-up window, and it is also included with physical copies of the game.)
- Return to the client.
- Fill in the blanks with your registration code.
- You’re ready to play now that you’ve logged in!
You may also use the ‘MogStation‘ and enter your redemption code directly.
