Dyrus Banned

Marcus ‘Dyrus’ Hill, a Twitch streamer and former League of Legends pro player, was temporarily banned from New World after using “abusive language” in the game’s general chat.

Almost every MMO player remembers how nasty online chat rooms could be back in the day; even in today’s games like New World, trash talk is almost always there.

While some of this may be considered rude online conversation, some gamers utilize it in a more lighthearted way to encourage friendly competition.

This could be the situation in one of the most recent incidents of an online game player being banned. In New World, a Twitch streamer was recently banned for using rude language while simply cultivating for hemp. Twitch streamer Dyrus was taken aback by the notification, and he has no idea what he did to deserve the ban in New World. However, it’s possible that it’s all because of a recent joke he told. One fan posted a clip of him on Twitter using the global chat to ask people, “Does anyone know where DN is?” to which he then followed up with “Deez Nuts.”

After attempting to appeal the ban, Dyrus posted a screenshot of the email he received from Amazon Game Studios. The disciplinary action was indeed necessary, according to the email, after further assessment of the original incident. Furthermore, the company informed Dyrus that a chat filter does not grant him authority to say whatever he wants. Without addressing why he was banned in the first place, the email concludes by stating that the company will not disclose any further information on the subject.

While the joke isn’t the most professional thing Dyrus could have said, it is certainly not abusive. The majority of Dyrus’ fans have sided with him and responded to the tweet, claiming that this is most likely due to Amazon’s usage of bots to automatically screen for profanity. A “Deez Nuts” joke was most likely just pinged on a list of “abusive language” without a person at the helm to grasp what defines a funny.

Another explanation proposed by another fan is that the ban was imposed because Dyrus was making fun of another Twitch streamer who was frequently self-promoting in chat. Fortunately, the restriction was only for 24 hours, and he’ll be able to play the game again by the end of the day. Strange New World bans have occurred in the past, which could be a sign of the MMO’s growing pains.
