Dream responds to #CancelDreamStans trend

The hashtag #CancelDreamStans has been trending on twitter recently and Dream has now hit back at critics of his fanbase. Dream is without a doubt one of the biggest Minecraft YouTube streamers on the platform. He has managed to gain a loyal following of almost 20 million YouTube subscribers, as well as a Twitch channel with nearly four million followers.

But then it seems like his popularity has caused a recurring controversy. The past few months have been rocky for Dream. First, he was accused of cheating during his Minecraft speedruns, which resulted in his official records being stripped away. Now, it looks like Dream’s ‘stans’ have come under scrutiny from the internet after some of his followers have been taking their support too far as they have been sending death threats to people who don’t like Dream’s content. Because of this, Dream recently made a statement on the matter as posted a series of tweets on twitter. He wrote; “This community has gone way too far… A bunch of mostly teenagers enjoying watching content creators and making friends with each other? I have never seen anything quite as disgusting… #canceldreamstans”.

This was followed by another tweet stating; “Obviously I don’t support death threats or threats at all, or any kind of disrespect and I call it out all the time in my community. But people who do those things know that it’s wrong and do it anyway.” This is not the first time Dream has responded to criticism towards his fanbase. Fanbase toxicity is an occupational hazard that comes with becoming a major figure in streaming.
