Dr Disrespect And Thoughts About Hype Of Elden Ring

After his adventures in the Lands Between this week, Dr Disrespect has labeled Elden Ring a “6/10 game,” arguing that the massive enthusiasm around FromSoftware’s latest Soulslike title is unwarranted and exaggerated.

On Monday, he said, “People are having fun… but not me. It’s hovering at maybe a six, for me, out of ten. It’s not interesting enough. For me, no. It just feels so boring.”

The two-time has been caught up in the Elden Ring craze this week, streaming the Soulslike sequel multiple times on YouTube since its release. Dr Disrespect, on the other hand, has not been impressed by the latest Souls entry, calling it “unathletic” and “boring” in a Feb. 28 stream.

Elden Ring’s lock-on feature, which was meant to expedite combat, is a huge stumbling block for the YouTuber. According to the two-time, FromSoftware made a “huge mistake” by forcing gamers to play in a certain way. He explained; “The controls of the game are a huge yikes for me. It feels like I’m playing NBA2k19. Smash, roll, duck, cut, back up, heal… it’s so boring. Clunky.”

The Doc cited Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order as an example of the same mechanics done well. “Those controls felt dialed in. You don’t feel free in Elden Ring.”

The two-time’s aversion to Elden Ring is a bit of an anomaly in the wider gaming world this past week too.

The latest FromSoftware title has smashed its way to the top of the Steam charts and Twitch streaming metrics, garnering near-universal praise from a slew of gaming critics. The YouTuber, who these days focuses on Warzone, Apex Legends, and Escape from Tarkov, did recognize that “a lot of people are having fun” with the game, but stated it isn’t for him. “I’m just not interested enough to sit here for hours [playing]. Go find a rare fucking sword, upgrade abilities, health. I get what you’re supposed to do, and it’s uninteresting.”

Dr. Disrespect has been giving Elden Ring another opportunity, most recently on March 1, but his general conclusion is that after the “overblown” buzz dies down, he won’t be returning to the Lands Between anytime soon.
