Botez Sisters Are Outplayed by Ten-Year-Old

Chess has seen its meteoric rise in popularity in the year 2020 with the help of the hit Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit. Along with the rise in popularity of the game, sisters Alexandra and Andrea Botez on twitch became one of streaming’s most iconic duos when it comes to chess games.

The duo has now gained a massive following on their twitch channel of more than 860k followers. Aside from their twitch channel, they also boasted over 450k YouTube subscribers. Alexandra and Andrea were both remarkably good chess players with Andrea ranked at 260 in the chess.com world rankings and Alexandra currently sits at 256th ranking.

But then during their recent live broadcast, they challenged some chess hustlers in New York City and they were faced with their most skilled opponent yet and that is a ten-year-old chess master Tanitoluwa Adewumi which neither one of the botez sisters couldn’t match the up-and-comer’s insane skill.

Adewumi is no normal chess player who was born in Nigeria. His family emigrated to the US in 2017 after being driven out of their country due to religious tensions. In 2019, he won the K-3 New York State chess championship while he and his family were living in a homeless shelter. He recently became the 28th-youngest chess master in history. Other than that, he also aspires to become the youngest-ever chess Grandmaster, overtaking a then-13-year-old Samuel Sevian.

During the Botez sister’s live broadcast, Andrea was the first one to match up with Tanitoluwa Adewumi but she soon lost after she randomly decided to gambit her queen allowing Adewumi to snap it up and take the win. While Alexandra fared no better as opponent used his queen to checkmate her. Furthermore, Alexandra tried twice more to get at least one win over Adewumi and tensions were high after he claimed the second game.
