Asmongold Speaks On WoW Changes

When Microsoft announced their $70 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard on January 18, the gaming world was engulfed in flames. Asmongold, a Twitch star, has since made a public plea to Microsoft to improve World of Warcraft.

When news surfaced that Microsoft had scored such a large agreement, putting games like Overwatch and WoW under their umbrella by 2023, Asmongold was as astonished as everyone else. The streamer confessed the move wasn’t what he expected, mirroring the widespread reaction of excitement and surprise the transaction produced.

Asmon discussed the possibility of WoW being integrated with consoles and cellphones in his Twitch stream, pointing out two big improvements that Microsoft might make to the mega-popular MMO title right away.

When a viewer speculated that WoW would ultimately come to consoles, the streaming star responded live on January 18th. Here’s what he stated; “I’ve always been an advocate for this. I actually hope that they do bring World of Warcraft to a console. I hope they do bring it to mobile… There are a lot of things you can do on a phone that you can easily just port over, especially smaller systems, solo gameplay, etcetera. People are saying this is such a bad thing, but why is it that Final Fantasy XIV is able to do it on console? Why is there not a pet battle phone app? Elder Scrolls Online does it as well.”

According to Asmongold, WoW gamers have a false picture of what mobile integration would be like, as it would not be like the gacha system used in Genshin Impact. The streamer pleaded with the WoW community, “Don’t categorically write off mobile support because it’s not good for the game. It’s reductive. The truth is that there are a lot of ways that phone integration, and more so console integration, can make the horizons for the game larger and wider rather than smaller.”

Keeping WoW an exclusively PC game is a “2010 way of thinking,” he said towards the end of his thoughts.

It’s unclear what Microsoft’s ambitions are for Blizzard and, more particularly, World of Warcraft, but it’s possible that huge things are on the horizon. Asmongold clearly prioritizes mobile and console integration.
