Asmongold Sends A Message To Blizzard Entertainment

Zack “Asmongold,” a popular Twitch streamer, disclosed that he wrote to Blizzard Entertainment about the drop rates of specific items in World of Warcraft.

The streamer has been presenting mount and rare item collection streams on his secondary Twitch channel. He is a well-known fan of the series. Zack claimed that he had protested to Blizzard Entertainment about the drop rates of such things after failing to obtain a rare item called a Necroray Egg from an in-game box named Tribute of the Ambitious.

The co-founder of OTK (One True King) is outspoken in his criticism of the game and doesn’t hold back when expressing his views on the wildly successful MMORPG from Blizzard Entertainment.

Zack was mining mounts and rare things on broadcast on August 8th. While he was at it, he finished the tasks necessary to obtain the Tribute of the Ambitious box, which might have contained the rare mount Necroray. Asmongold claimed that he had complained to Blizzard Entertainment about not being able to obtain the mount after opening the box, and he subsequently asked his viewers if they would be interested in reading what he had said.

The streamer opened a word document and started reading the message aloud when fans voiced their eagerness: “What is the design goal with the Necroray Eggs that drop from the Maldraxxus calling boxes? Personally, I’ve opened ~170 boxes and received 0 eggs, and while I thought maybe I was having bad luck, I looked online, and there were people who had opened over 300 without seeing a single egg.”

According to Asmongold, the typical player would probably spend a year farming the items in order to obtain them. He added; “Assuming the chance of getting an egg is between 1-50 and 1 and 100, an average player would have to spend an entire YEAR farming these callings, assuming equal representation of covenants (anyone serious would be Maldraxxus covenant so they could get the generic ‘complete Maw encounters’ and ‘collect rare items’ etc. callings to reward a Maldraxxus box as well as they are given based on your current covenant) to obtain just one of these eggs, let alone the three that are required to have all the mounts.”

Zack went on to explain that he would keep farming them if the item’s low chance of dropping was an intentional design. The fact that a player had to put in so much effort to obtain something that was essentially a recolor of a mount that had been released two expansions earlier, however, seemed excessive.

Asmongold said he did not want to come across as a vindictive mount collector and was merely expressing real worries on the low chances of acquiring specific rewards, which brought an end to the strong message to Blizzard Entertainment: “I don’t want to come off like a mount collector who’s salty, they didn’t get the drop (I am), but moreso draw attention and ask a legitimate question considering there’s a good chance it might not be intended, given the precedent set by previous paragon box/calling box rewards.”
