Andrea Botez Is Stunned

During a chess tour in London, England, Twitch star Andrea Botez was checkmated by a nine-year-old boy, which was awkward and embarrassing.

Alexandra and Andrea Botez, Twitch’s Chess Queens, have taken the globe by storm with their skills on and off the board, delivering some of the best content on the platform. But that does not remove the fact that they are unbeatable.

Both Alex and Andrea are on a world tour, and the two have set out to conquer the world. The Envy combo have previously conquered Paris and now find themselves in London, before traveling to Norway and Dubai. Andrea found herself at a London Chess Center meetup to compete against a range of opponents, including a 9-year-old boy, during their England trip.

Andrea questioned the boy’s ranking as she prepared to face a young child in the highly aggressive and strategic game of chess, and she seemed puzzled by his response. The child claimed he was 1,200 on Chess.com and 2,300 on Lichess, a significant difference. She joked; “See chat, I told you about the inflation! 2,300 actually? How did that happen? Did you let your dad play on your account? ”

Regardless, she agreed to take the game seriously, and as soon as the two shook hands, the battle for ultimate chess dominance, and possibly the fate of the world began. As the game progressed and both sides lost pieces, Andrea considered her next move and decided to move a pawn – a decision that proved to be incredibly costly.

In chess, there’s a meme about the Botez sisters, in which someone’s mistake costs them their queen. That’s exactly what occurred to Andrea when she moved her pawn, exposing her queen.

“Oh no,” she exclaimed, before attempting to reverse the action. However, because the match’s rules about touching pieces were not predetermined, Andrea chose to just let him take her queen. This sparked the kid’s side’s momentum, as he directed his pieces like a general leading an army against Andrea’s diminishing forces. Eventually, the kid stood to play the rest of the game, taking command of the board and moving closer to capturing Andrea’s king to bring the battle to a close.

Andrea realized she was probably too comfortable and was in no position to win it out despite having fourteen seconds remaining to work with. The kid was able to position his queen on the rear rank of the board, putting Andrea’s king in checkmate and securing the victory.

Andrea may have lost the battle, but the video went viral on Reddit, bringing even more attention to her stream.  Alexandra even mocked her younger sister on Twitter, saying, “What’s new?” after Andrea announced her loss.
