Amouranth Shadowbanned

Amouranth Shadowbanned

Since 2018, Twitter has been accused of shadowbanning controversial figures. The company denies using such a mechanism, but users have discovered that Twitter’s algorithm can dramatically reduce the exposure of specific persons. This type of action is usually conducted against those who make offensive words or are contentious in the public eye.

Kaitlyn ‘Amouranth’ Siragusa is the most recent addition to this Twitter list.

Amouranth is one of the most well-known and controversial content creators on the internet. She has received backlash from social media platforms as a result of her NSFW content, which violates the terms of service of several of them. Her “hot tub streams” on Twitch TV drew widespread notice; the platform had previously banned her but later lifted the ban.

On another popular social media platform, Instagram, she hasn’t had as much luck. Because of the trolls’ mass-reporting, Instagram had to remove her account from the platform (as explained by Amournath herself). Despite this, they have given no indication that her account will be unbanned.

This time, it appears that Twitter has discreetly shadow-banned her using their algorithm. Because of shadow banning, it took Tyler Erzberger, a well-known esports journalist, ten minutes to find Amouranth on Twitter. Amouranth retweeted his message, tagging Twitter Support, and requesting that they verify her account and remove her shadow ban.

Amouranth’s own postings and account have become more difficult to find on a feed or by searching as a result of the shadowban, even for people who follow her on Twitter. This could have a significant impact on Amournath’s audience engagement. Twitter has yet to issue a statement or provide any clarification on the situation.
