Playing video games is one of the things that has become a hobby for many people, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. Different people are playing and some are streaming it. The gaming industry is now gaining a large audience and users.

2020 was mostly about staying home and social distancing which is why most of the people focus their attention on gaming. Others also used online gaming to earn money and some used it to raise funds. 

Sully Gnome was able to track the viewership for the whole year of 2020 and came up with the 10 most viewed categories on the streaming platform.

The first on the list is obviously Just Chatting. It is a category where streamers/content creators used this as their way to communicate and to have conversations with their fans and followers. Just Chatting allows you to communicate with the streamer while they’re doing their own thing like playing a game or just sitting there talking about anything.

Second was League of Legends. The World Championship Finals helped them achieve the second-most viewed on streaming platforms. The game gathered a viewership of 3.88 million excluding other language esports and esports charts.

Fortnite is the third on the list even though many users say that fortnite is dying but that seems to be the opposite because many people are now using the game more than ever and even reached their category’s peak viewership of 2,331,987

Grand Theft Auto V is next on the list with almost 820,000,000 hours of watch time. There are still many users of this game that finds it exciting and entertaining especially with their crime-heavy series.

Valorant is no surprise that they made it to the top 10 list. The game is the new riot’s tactical shooter that caught the attention of lots of gamers and streamers. 2020 is one of their highest times because many are drawn to the game and still continue to stream and play it.

Call of Duty: Warzone also made it on the list obviously with the help of twitch stars like shroud and many more. These streamers helped the game gather 800,440,731 hours of watch time.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is also on the list and gathered 55,387,928 hours of viewership. Even when the new riot game Valorant was released, they still made it to the list.

Minecraft had 20 million watched hours on Twitch and even gathered more users when they made a promotional connection to Nintendo Smash Bros.

Dota 2 is still on the list even though they didn’t host a tournament and still gathered 495,008,970 viewership hours. Despite the lack of tournament, they still managed to provide new contents and add major updates and heroes. 

World of Warcraft is also on the list thanks to popular streamers like Asmongold. He is one of the reasons why WoW is still making a name in the streaming industry. The game’s latest expansion pack World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is one of the reasons why the game became more exciting to play and gathered lots of users.

Among Us is obviously on the list because of the number of users they gained in 2020. Many popular streamers played and streamed this game with lots of known personalities like the Congressman AOC. The game is undoubtedly famous because of the many users who enjoyed playing this game. They reached 413,780,561 hours of viewership.
