YouTube Subscribers-Only

Online Video platform, YouTube launched subscriber-only chat and teases more upcoming updates to rival Twitch.

Global Head of Gaming Ryan Wyatt AKA Fwiz announced that they just launched a subscriber-only chat feature on YouTube and said that there will be more to come on the way to rival Twitch.

Streaming on YouTube is now evolving and they happily announced their new sub-only mode feature. The new feature is no different from how it works on Twitch and it will now allow its streamers to keep their chat exclusive for subscribers.

Regular, not subscribed, or casual streamers are not allowed to hop in and chat while this new feature is enabled. Everyone must be an active subscriber in order for them to communicate with the streamer.

This new feature can still be turned off by the streamer and turned it on whenever they want to. YouTube also allows its creators to set how long viewers need to be subscribed for. Meaning, only active and hardcore fans could only engage in a live YouTube chat.

The feature went live May 6th. It is currently on its beta form, meaning that there could be still some bugs along the way and moreover, sub-only is purely an experiment for the time being.

Since the news about the sub-only mode feature was announced, only a limited number of streamers have access to it and since it was announced, many have been wondering about other features like gifted subs and raiding. Fwiz simply replied that there’s more to come and YouTube itself will announce when the time comes.

While there’s no timeline mapped out for the additional features, it is shown that YouTube is prioritizing it.
