Twitch Extension Prevents DMCA Notice

Developer Peter Frydenlund Madsen recently found a solution to the DMCA notices where Twitch streamers’ number one problem whenever playing copyrighted music in the background and that can result in a ban. Twitch Streamers can now play music to their fans without risking infringement complaints.

Earlier this year, chaos erupted on the streaming platform Twitch when its users were suddenly bombarded with infringement notices from their uploaded contents from 2017-2019. It was the work of the RIAA, and another second wave of complaints were back again in October 2020 when the music industry groups complained.

Last May, Twitch sent out an email to its streamers noting that it had received another DMCA takedown notice for music publishers targeting streamers who’re listening to background music while playing video games.

Streaming copyrighted music without receiving DMCA notices and ensuring artists getting paid. Is it possible?

Developer Peter Frydenlund Madsen AKA Pequeno0 came up with an elegant solution and lateral thinking that will be useful to millions of users and achieve the impossible. Pequeno0’s solution is to use a Twitch extension SpotifySynchronizer where a streamer’s spotify is synchronized with the viewer’s spotify so that the music of the streamer’s stream can be listened by the viewer at the exact same time.

No copyrighted tracks are recorded or distributed with or even without permission and that’s the beauty of it. Viewers can splu connect to the streamer’s Spotify using the said extension and if necessary, executes a force sync and then listen to the exact same music the streamer is listening to. It is a win-win for the streamer and also the artists are getting paid.

According to Pequeno0, when the DMCA strike hits, he started the said project and talked to his friend of his and came up with the idea of synchronizing music in a way that it would still pay the artists. He says that he himself is a Spotify user and since it’s a widely used service and millions of people using it, his decision to integrate the platform was obvious and was not without technical issues. He has been working on SpotifySynchronizer for months now, and said that if the extension he developed gets popular, it could be extended to even more services.

SpotifySynchronizer helps and will be able for the streamer and viewer to listen to the same songs and Pequeno0 promised that there will be no DMCA notice coming when using one.
