Twitch Avoids Ad Blockers Again

Advertisements are a way for large companies and the advertising industry to drive their message to consumers. The goal is to motivate consumers to buy goods or services, change their way of thinking or to just create excitement. Twitch has been enabling audiences to skip or block ads from their screen. Just a month ago, Twitch introduced ‘unblockable ads’. Unblockable ads are the ones that avoid all the ad blockers by greeting users with multiple ad segments that can not be skipped and are constantly played throughout Twitch streams.

Some users were annoyed with ads and so they have used 5 different adblock tools just to handle ads. Through these unblockable ads, ads would suddenly arrive and block the incoming audio and video stream from users as full-scale advertisements about companies such as fast-food chains which would play non-stop. Even the streamers themselves were not able to do anything about it, to stop the advertisements popping onto the screen. Users came up with their own ways to avoid them.

Twitch has managed to circumvent the circumventing and to bring back the ads on everyone’s screen. It’s clear that the Twitch staff is bent on ensuring that full-screen advertisements play for everyone on Twitch, and they will continue to develop technologies that will circumvent users’ ability to dodge them.
