Twitch Addresses Concerns

Twitch is typically the first place people go to when they want to watch a video game broadcast or perhaps generate comparable content themselves.

While streaming platforms experienced a dip a few months ago, the service owned by Amazon appears to be on the upswing. But among the various problems, there has been one that has been raising some questions lately. Although gambling has grown in popularity on the website, a business spokesperson has stated that the issue will be investigated.

It appears that the streaming network is taking a “deep-dive look” into the worries around gambling content on the site, according to a recent story from Bloomberg, who is citing a few comments from someone from Twitch itself.

The representative acknowledged that although gambling only makes up a small portion of the platform’s content, the company has taken steps to ensure that referral links or codes to online gambling sites are forbidden. What further action will be taken is unknown, but the spokesperson stated that the website closely monitors such activities to make sure that it doesn’t potentially do harm.

The study mentions several instances of individuals who were harmed by gambling on the site, including Twitch streamer xQc, whose true name is Felix Lengyel. A few months ago, xQc acknowledged that he has a problem with gambling. He stated that he finds a method to bet in almost every game he plays and that he enjoys it. Not long later, when it was discovered that he had lost almost $1 million, things took a serious turn. This was attributed to a gambling site malfunction, but it still illustrates how users and streamers can fall victim to addiction. Some people even started a petition asking Twitch to outlaw gambling streams, blasting broadcasters for airing such content on their channels. The petition on Change.org currently has 2,398 signatories, which is little over 100 more than its 2,500 signature target. It’s unclear at this time whether Twitch will put such adjustments into effect.

In terms of gambling issues, Twitch has previously generated a lot of debate. Along with the “hate raid” scandal from a year ago, there have also been several instances of user bans for unclear reasons.

Despite these, the site continues to be the most widely used location for watching and streaming gaming content. Despite the numerous scandals that have followed Twitch, many individuals still appear to favor it over other options right away.
