Trainwrecks Reveals Details For A Potential New Platform

Since Twitch announced revisions to its standards regarding gambling content, one of the most outspoken and opinionated streamers online, Trainwrecks, has hinted that he is developing an alternate to the platform.

He previously stated that he was going to create a platform or “team up with one,” and now he “leaked” some details about his plans. He teased the public with the prospective subscription revenue split even if he didn’t have a “full update” today.

He said; “Will provide a full update in a day or two, but for now, I’ll leak one thing – partnered creator sub split, 95% creator, 5% company. Fuck it, I’ll leak one more thing – we will have a bits equivalent & we won’t upcharge the viewer, you want to give $100 to your favorite creator, you should be charged ~$100 (you only pay the processing) – no more being charged $130 to get $100.”

Since the network announced plans to cut the amount of producers it gives a 70-30 split to and stated it would cap that rate to the first $100,000 a creator makes, subscription revenue sharing have become a contentious issue for Twitch this fall. On the platform, the standard subscription income share is 50/50. If Train’s platform had a 95-5 split, it would be equivalent to Patreon, which isn’t known for its livestreaming features. Even YouTube, who at the moment is Twitch’s main streaming rival, only provides a 70-30 split across all of its revenue sources.

The expense of maintaining and running livestreaming servers was one of the key issues Twitch raised in its decision to decrease the amount of 70-30 splits it offers.

So it would be a bold move if a platform focused on live streaming provided a 95-5 split. But if it were a success, it would irreparably alter the market as we currently know it.
