Streamers – Arise!

Streamers of the Twitch platform have been facing DMCA takedown issues these past few months. Some of the streamers have had to delete all of their past VOD’s and clips including some of the biggest streamers such as Pokimane. Now it’s even gotten worse due to some saying that they have received a DMCA notice even though they have already deleted all of their past VOD’s.

Some video games that they were streaming have a copyrighted issue resulting for them to get a notice.Twitch recommended and offered streamers to play games with the music muted, which obviously isn’t great advice when it comes to rhythm games, or games that don’t have the option to mute music separately from other audio. Because of this, streamers have been protesting by playing games with the sound off completely to highlight the absurdity of the situation.

Like the streamer with the username Chainbrain who posted on twitter a clip of him playing Rocksmith game without a sound, silently nodding along to songs nobody can hear, highlighting the problem while still entertaining their viewers. Chainbrain tweeted out; “I took the advice Twitch gave and muted my Rocksmith game audio. Sounds pretty good I think! You also get a more realistic sweaty metalhead experience”! As well as streamer DeadPirateBrandon who posted on Twitter, playing Resident Evil without a sound just to avoid a DMCA takedown.
