Streamer Asmongold Defends Trainwreck

Twitch streamer Asmongold is facing further backlash after he re-entered the debate over Trainwreck and chocoTaco’s recent Twitter dispute. He recently addressed the issue on broadcast, once again opting to defend Trainwreck.

The controversy originates from recent news that Trainwreck gave former DIG and NIP star Christopher “GeT RiGhT” Alesund a 2014 Dignitas Katowice Holo Sticker, a highly valued item in Counter-Strike. TSM streamer chocoTaco responded on Twitter with a Star Trek quote, saying, “Villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged,” to which Trainwreck took offense. Following his original Twitter response, Asmongold expanded on the situation, siding with Trainwreck on the issue of “harassment” when a larger streamer calls out a smaller streamer.

Asmongold stated, “Nick is completely right. He is completely right. People were crying about that and they were mad that Nick said this. Nick is completely right. If you step up to anybody, expect them to respond.”

However, the video was shared to r/livestreamfails with the headline “Asmongold defends Trainwrecks and Pog0 Polom,” leading LSF users to believe Asmongold was defending Trainwrecks gambling streams as well.

Fans accused Asmongold of being a “hypocrite” for defending Trainwreck, despite the fact that he had previously declared he would never gamble on stream, with the tape receiving over 11k views and 400+ comments in under an hour.

Asmongold resumed his monologue on the subject saying; “It’s completely fine if he (chocoTaco) wants to criticize Trainwreck for gambling, he wants to call him out for doing this, you are completely within your rights to do that. But don’t for a second think that your opinion and the validity to ascribe to your own opinion gives you immunity from other people disagreeing with you. It’s pathetic.”

Asmongold was made aware of the r/livestreamfails tape shortly after, and he addressed the backlash he was receiving. In reaction to the comments, Asmongold stated, “Guys, I don’t like gambling. I don’t like doing it. That is why I do not do it. I don’t gamble offstream, I never gamble. I just don’t like doing it. That’s all there is to it.”

The continuing debate surrounding Twitch gambling continues to entangle itself in a variety of aspects concerning streams.
