Sodapoppin’s Take On Wrath of the Lich King

Today marks the launch of World of Warcraft Classic’s pre-patch for Wrath of the Lich King, and as any genuine fan would know, Sodapoppin is prepped and prepared to delve into more classic World of Warcraft content.

Soda specifically wants to join one of the few brand-new servers that Blizzard is creating to provide gamers a somewhat different experience as they prepare for Wrath. A “fresh” server, as the name suggests, is a brand-new server with no players currently playing on it. As part of Blizzard’s Wrath strategy, these servers will not permit character transfers from other servers. Players now have access to a setting that is, if not entirely free, at least momentarily, of all the gold farming and inflation that occasionally taints the gaming experience.

But as he awaited the servers’ activation, Soda made a note of something he found particularly annoying regarding the manner Blizzard is establishing these brand-new servers for Wrath. There will be a total of four servers installed, two in Europe and two in North America. There will be a standard server and a PvP server for each. The location of the NA PvP server—on the West Coast—is where Soda’s issue lies.

The new PvE server will be located on the U.S. East region of the North American servers, while the PvP server will be located on the U.S. West region. Many gamers will likely be surprised by this given how much more PvP servers are used by content producers and how much more the U.S. East servers are used due to their capacity to draw in players from both America and Europe.

Soda said; “I don’t understand the reasoning for that considering a lot of EU people tend to play on NA. They do. They just do, and ping actually matters in PvP. I really want to meet the person who’s going to tell me that ping matters heavily for PvE—in Wrath of the Lich King.”

There are probably other people who are confused about the choice besides Soda. As he continued to vent his displeasure, he worked himself up into a rage and even started screaming as he sought to understand the decision that he thought was, to put it mildly, idiotic.

Soda stated; “I’m just so annoyed. I want to be in that meeting. I want to be in the room when they’re sitting there at Blizzard or the people that are managing the Classic shit, and they’re like, ‘where should we host the fresh Wrath of the Lich King server? West Coast.’ Who the fuck said yes? Why? It actually blows my mind… and it’s not even that big of a bother, it’s just the wrong decision. It’s so blatantly the wrong decision is why I’m so annoyed by it.”
