Shroud on New World’s Decline

Twitch star Michael Grzesiek aka Shroud stated what he believes is the single most important factor in New World’s collapse, and while he still enjoys the game, he conceded that it may cause him to take a break.

New World exploded onto the scene with 913,634 concurrent players on Steam and 985,738 viewers on Twitch in its first week, according to SteamDB data. However, since then, the numbers have decreased. One of the key causes for this is the lack of working end-game content. Shroud, who is a huge fan of the game, tends to agree. In a video on one of his official YouTube channels, he discussed it.

When asked about New World’s problems, he remarked, “It’s really rough. I know Amazon Game Studios is panicking behind the scenes, and they’re trying their absolute best to fix it.”

He claims to “know for a fact” that the developers are aware of the magnitude of the problem and that fixing it is their “number one priority.” However, he believes it will take “a very long time” to resolve, which may cause people to abandon the project. He added; “We might see some people quit this game because the main reason to keep playing this game is a lot of upkeep. But if you have no upkeep, you can take it easy, and once you start taking it easy, that’s when you quit.”

Even though he still enjoys the game, he believes it has the potential to turn him away — at least in the short term stating; “I don’t think I’d fully quit, but I would definitely chill. There’s no reason to pump so many hours if you aren’t grinding for anything.”

However, it hasn’t stopped him from playing yet. He broadcast it on October 22 and appeared to be having a great time. The number of players in New World will most likely remain a hot issue in the next weeks and months. According to MMO Populations, the game has 1.3 million active players, slightly more than World of Warcraft’s 1.1 million.

So, while the initial excitement has died down, the game’s player base appears to be strong. Fans are hoping that after the developers fix the end-game content difficulties, things will only get better.
