After being criticized for turning the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial into a meme, Twitch star streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys swiftly removed her tweet.

The high-profile court case will take place in Fairfax County, Virginia, for five weeks and is slated to end on May 27. Throughout her court appearances, Heard has accused her ex-husband of domestic violence. This followed her 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post, which resulted in Depp filing a defamation suit against her, claiming the charges mentioned in the article were false. Both actors have given images to the jury that show marks on their faces from alleged domestic abuse.

As with any celebrity case in the United States, widespread media coverage has shone a brighter light on every piece of evidence, testimony, and witness than the usual legal proceeding. The trial was so popular that it was aired live across the world, garnering millions of viewers.

Several prominent Twitch streamers have commented along the way, including Pokimane. She made her first YouTube video on the situation on May 3rd, joking that Heard “Googled how to look sad” in court. Since then, the content creator has been monitoring, and on May 17th, Poki decided to participate in the case’s memeification.

Pokimane added photographs of Ms. Heard to a popular meme format from The Office, in which the character Pam gives two identical-looking photos and asks for distinctions.

During the trial, it was claimed that varied lighting makes the marks stand out more. The meme joked, “They’re the same picture.” It didn’t take long for a lot of Twitter users to condemn the change, claiming that it was making light of domestic abuse.

The tweet has already been deleted by Pokimane.
