PewDiePie Relocates To Japan

PewDiePie, the YouTube king, has moved to Japan, revealing the news in an emotional vlog over two and a half years after originally declaring his plan.

Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg is the most popular independent content creator on YouTube. After rising to fame as a YouTuber, the Swede stayed in the United Kingdom for a while before announcing his plans to go to Japan in Fall 2019. Fans were not surprised by the move; Kjellberg is a longtime fan of Japanese culture and has visited the country several times.

His plans were put on hold for two years due to the worldwide health crisis. PewDiePie’s home in Japan was broken into and looted at that time, and the country’s restricted borders owing to health concerns prevented him from crossing. This changed in May 2022. PewDiePie shared the big news in a vlog on May 9: he and his wife Marzia, as well as their two pugs, have arrived in Japan.

Kjellberg’s vlog walks viewers through the rigorous process of obtaining Visas and other moving-to-another-country requirements, as well as the challenges of flying with pets.  While the video is generally joyful, PewDiePie’s emotions welled up as he realized he and Marzia had finally realized their dream as they were driven to their new house.

He said near the end of his video; “Obviously, it’s been a really long journey, but I really, really appreciate everyone who was supportive of us going. It just meant a lot that people were cheering for us, you know? It feels amazing to be here, finally. …I can’t wait for the next chapter of our lives.”
