One More DMCA Strike

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act or the DMCA crisis on Twitch has become more out of hand as the days have gone by. It caused some of the popular Twitch streamers to be banned from the platform because of their deleted clips, with deleted content reportedly still being eligible for DMCA strikes. Other streamers have been deleting all of their past VOD’s to avoid getting permanently banned on the platform.

Even Twitch’s own employees are not safe from getting a DMCA takedown as Lain Cole, who is a part of the event engineering team on Twitch, received an issued DMCA infringement notice. According to him, he was just streaming and playing the game Destiny 2 but then during the stream, when he entered the Empty Tank Lost Sector in the Tangled Shore battling through the Lost Sector, the song Hope for the Future by Paul McCartney played because the song was written by McCartney for Bungie to coincide with the release of the first Destiny game. Lain Cole tweeted out this incident, reminding some streamers to be careful because the game might get them in trouble.

He posted out; “You know the weird disco area on the Tangled Shore in Destiny? Yeah be careful folks! This music that was created FOR the game might get you in troubleā€! The track was not owned by the game even though Bungie commissioned the track and that track is actually the property of one of the biggest record labels in the world which is Universal Music Group.
